An interview with Ed Liddle
British Petroleum (BP)
In 2000, the Refining Division of energy company BP met in Lake Geneva, Illinois to examine ways to move the business forward. This meeting was called, "Operation People" and was set up to try and improve morale in their refineries. It seemed the employees weren't happy, and the business was not progressing, and BP wanted to find ways to make the refinery a better place to work.
They had a group of employees create a band and play at the meeting. The music drew everybody in and broke down ethnic/language barriers, making the atmosphere more accepting. As a result, the band became famous amongst the BP employees and were asked to play at every large meeting BP held. They even competed in the Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands!
